ComEd Indicative Default Service Energy Rate Set To Increase 60% For Residential, Small C&I Customers
The following story is brought free of charge to readers by VertexOne, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com
Commonwealth Edison has filed updated indicative Purchased Electricity Charges (PECs) for default service customers for the period starting June 1, 2025
The indicative PECs filed by ComEd with the Illinois Commerce Commission reflect the results of the spring default service procurement, but do not reflect the results of upcoming PJM
Financial Transmission Rights (FTR) Auctions. Typically, the impact of the FTR auctions on PECs is a few mills per kWh. ComEd will file final PECs in May
The PECs reflect the cost of energy and capacity. The full Price to Compare includes the PEC plus ComEd's PJM Services Charge (PSC), which reflects the cost of transmission. While ComEd has also filed new PSCs, these PSCs do not yet reflect any update to the Transmission Formula Rate Annual Revenue Requirement which typically occurs prior to June 1.
Regarding the new PECs, the indicative residential PEC for the period June 2025 through September 2025 is 8.057 cents per kWh, or about 60% higher than the current ComEd residential PEC of 5.015 cents per kWh
The indicative Watt-hour Non-Electric Space Heating PEC for the period June 2025 through September 2025 is 8.100 cents per kWh, or about 60% higher than the current ComEd Watt-hour Non-Electric Space Heating PEC of 5.046 cents per kWh
The filed indicative PECs are below. Again, these PECs are not final and will likely change marginally prior to taking effect on June 1 due the impact of the FTR auction
ComEd also filed indicative non-summer PECs for the period October 2025 to May 2026, but as additional supplies for this period may be procured in a fall procurement, the rates are subject to change and are not posted here
