Oncor Reports Energy Savings, Customer Participation In REP Smart Thermostat Program
The following story is brought free of charge to readers by VertexOne, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com
As part of its 2025 Energy Efficiency Plan and Report, Oncor reported certain metrics related to the pilot program under which Texas retail electric providers are reimbursed under Oncor's energy efficiency budget for providing a smart thermostat to residential customers
The program, which was launched in Q3 of PY2024 on a pilot basis with 4 REPs applying to participate (with participation capped), produced savings of 2,066,097 kWh in 2024
The program served 1,366 customer meters in 2024, with paid incentives to REPs totaling $137,100
Going forward, the program has been renamed the Residential REP Connected Thermostat MTP (Market Transformation Program) and will continue on a pilot basis. However, as previously reported, the number of REP participants will no longer be capped
As previously reported, under the new program year, Oncor will pay a $100 incentive to a REP for each qualified smart thermostat provisioned to a household served by Oncor

In the 2024 pilot, four REPs had applied to participate -- Octopus Energy LLC, Reliant Energy Retail Services, LLC, Rhythm Ops LLC, and Vistra Vision LLC [sic]. Oncor reported that, "3-out-of-4 REPs that applied to participate install[ed] connected thermostats and receiv[ed] an incentive," though Oncor did not identify the 3 specific REPs which received an incentive
