Regulator Schedules Further Working Group Meeting On Proposals For Retail Energy Market Reset

The Massachusetts DPU scheduled for April 16, 2025 a further workgroup meeting in the DPU's recently restarted retail energy market review proceeding, in which, as previously reported, DPU Staff has called for a market "reset"

In particular, the case's hearing officers welcomed stakeholder responses to several of Staff's proposals covered at a recent kick-off meeting, with the hearing officers seeking stakeholder recommendations for implementation of Staff's proposals, or alternatives to the Staff's proposals. Specifically, the hearing officers invited responses to Staff proposals including:
• Staff's proposal that all initial enrollments with a retail supplier must occur through the state's Energy Switch MA website
• Staff's proposal that auto-renewals shall be banned, and that any continued service at contract end must be executed through an enrollment through Energy Switch MA
• Staff's proposal that any variable price customer, in order to continue service with their supplier, must re-enroll each month through Energy Switch MA
• Staff's proposal to ban telemarketing and door-to-door marketing
