CenterPoint-TDU To Apply Cap On Budget Allocated To Any Single REP Under New Smart Thermostat Incentive Program For Retail Providers
The following story is brought free of charge to readers by VertexOne, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com
Following a call with REPs earlier this week, CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric in a market notice provided more details about its new Smart Thermostat Program, under which Texas retail electric providers are reimbursed under the TDU's energy efficiency budget for providing a smart thermostat to residential customers in CEHE's service area
Notably, no more than 40% of the program budget may be awarded to a single REP, or to a group of REPs with the same parent company
The program's currently allocated budget is $2 million
The incentive payment to REPs per installed Energy Star smart thermostat is a fixed incentive of $100, with up to 2 smart thermostats per ESID
The program opens on April 1, 2025 and closes on December 1, 2025
Installation of the smart thermostat may be performed by a contractor, or done via customer self-install
For contractor installs, the contractor is assigned and scheduled via the REP, with the contractor required to take pictures of the before and the after of the installation
For self-installs, the REP is responsible to "PING" the smart thermostat to ensure it is installed
