Pennsylvania Utility Files Interim 40% Increase In Default Service Rate
The following story is brought free of charge to readers by VertexOne, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com
Peoples Natural Gas Company LLC has filed in Pennsylvania an interim increase in its natural gas commodity supply cost, which also results in a higher merchant function charge, given the operation of how the MFC is calculated
Peoples Natural Gas Company LLC's filing is not a customary quarterly gas supply cost rate change, in which the purchased gas cost rate is adjusted (as needed) on January 1, April 1, July 1, and October 1.
Rather, Peoples Natural Gas Company LLC filed the interim gas supply cost rate change to be effective March 1, 2025.
As a result of the interim supply cost rate adjustment, Peoples Natural Gas Company LLC's residential price to compare is now $3.7172 per Mcf (effective March 1, 2025), up about 43% from the current $2.5905 per Mcf
Peoples Natural Gas Company LLC's Small General Service (SGS) price to compare is increasing to $4.4797 per Mcf, up about 33% from the current $3.3736 per Mcf
Peoples Natural Gas cited a change in commodity prices for the interim adjustment
Under the interim adjustment, the natural gas commodity supply charge (alone, not including other bypassable components included in the total PTC) is increasing to $3.5884 per Mcf from $2.4859 per Mcf for all classes (classes have different PTCs due to different rats for capacity, MFC, etc.)
