Utility Files To Cease Provision Of Customer Lists To Retail Suppliers
The following story is brought free of charge to readers by VertexOne, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com
Baltimore Gas & Electric has filed at the Maryland PSC to modify its electric and gas tariffs to remove the requirement that BGE make customer lists available for purchase by retail suppliers
BGE had previously stated an intent to cease the offering of the customer lists as part of implementing the new Do Not Market/Switch lists in Maryland (previously reported here), but, because the availability of customer lists is included in BGE's supplier tariffs, BGE needed to formally file to accomplish such elimination
BGE reiterated that offering both a Do Not Market list and customer list would be confusing to customers, and could result in customers being placed on the Do Not Market list, but also still included on the customer list, because removal from the customer list is done on an opt-out basis
BGE said that the customer list has only been purchased by suppliers on eight occasions
BGE noted that other Maryland utilities do not offer customer lists, and said that it is not aware of any requirement, other than its current tariff, that a utility must offer a customer list to suppliers
