Oncor Expanding REP Smart Thermostat Rebate Program To All REPs, Sets Start Date
The following story is brought free of charge to readers by VertexOne, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com
In a market notice, Oncor informed retail electric providers of the start of a new period for Oncor's program under which Texas retail electric providers are reimbursed under the TDU's energy efficiency budget for providing a smart thermostat to residential customers
See background on the program here
As previously reported, during a pilot phase in 2024, participation was limited to a capped number of REPs (which was 4 REPs)
Oncor's market notice does not make any mention of any cap concerning the number of different REPs able to participate in the new term of the program
Under the program, Oncor will pay a $100 incentive to a REP for each qualified smart thermostat provisioned to a household served by Oncor
"Each participating REP will have a dedicated budget allocation," Oncor stated
The 2025 annual budget is $1,000,000 with a 20% total incentive cap per REP
At a single household, an incentive will be paid to no more than two thermostats
Thermostats must be ENERGY STAR certified
Smart thermostats may be contractor or self-installed
The program will commence on January 21, 2025 and end on December 8, 2025
