Pa. Utility Seeking Changes To Competitively Source Natural Gas Supplies From Marketers

Pike County Light & Power, for its natural gas supply sales service in Pennsylvania, is seeking changes that would allow it to competitively source gas supplies from marketers
Pike currently purchases all of its gas supplies from Orange & Rockland Utilities under a full services contract
Moreover, Pike is currently unable to transport gas over the O&R gas system, and no alternative pipeline exists to provide the necessary service. This prevents Pike from purchasing gas supplies from providers other than O&R
In a newly filed rate case before the Pennsylvania PUC, Pike said that it is in discussions with O&R to modify its contract in order to permit Pike to procure gas supplies from competitive marketers, to be delivered to O&R’s gate station in New York. O&R would then deliver such gas supplies to Pike's gate station in Port Jervis, New York.
Pike said that being able to source gas supplies from competitive marketers, and not being solely reliant on O&R for supplies, should reduce Pike's gas commodity price to retail customers
Pike is not required to comply with Pennsylvania's natural gas choice law due to Pike's small size, though Pike may voluntarily elect to seek approval from the PUC to offer retail gas choice. Currently, Pike does not have an active retail gas choice program
For natural gas, Pike serves about 1,300 customers
