National Grid Mass Market Default Service Rates Falling About 10%

National Grid's residential electric default service rate in Massachusetts is set to fall by about about 8%, but 11 retail suppliers are currently offering rates below the new, lower National Grid basic service rate
Specifically, for the period February 1, 2025 through July 31, 2025, National Grid's residential fixed basic service rate will be 14.672¢ per kWh, which is about 8% lower than the current basic service rate of 16.029¢ per kWh
All basic service rates in this story include the current Basic Service Administrative Cost Adjustment Factors (BSACFs) and the currently effective Smart Grid Customer Cost Adjustment Factors (SGCCAFs).
A review conducted by ECM indicates that there are currently 11 different competitive retail electric suppliers (excluding opt-out aggregation) that are offering on Energy Switch MA a residential fixed rate below National Grid's newly proposed residential basic service rate of 14.672¢ per kWh
At least three different retail suppliers are offering a residential fixed rate that is at least 1¢/kWh cheaper than the new National Grid default service rate, with the retail supplier's rate fixed for at least 11 months or more depending on supplier
For commercial customers, National Grid's fixed basic service rate for the period February 1, 2025 through July 31, 2025 is 13.409¢ per kWh, which is about 9% lower than the current rate of 14.796¢ per kWh
