Castleton Commodities Merchant Trading L.P. (CCMT), part of Castleton Commodities International (CCI), has applied for a Pennsylvania natural gas supplier license

Castleton Commodities Merchant Trading is active in wholesale natural gas marketing. The company holds a Connecticut natural gas marketer registration, but does not currently serve any retail customers in Connecticut

"Pennsylvania is anticipated to be the only jurisdiction other than Connecticut in which CCMT will hold a retail license," Castleton Commodities Merchant Trading said

In Pennsylvania, Castleton Commodities applied to serve large commercial customers (6,000 Mcf or more annually) and industrial customers at UGI

Castleton Commodities International recently announced the acquisition of the 169 MW gas-fired Hunlock Creek Energy Center power plant in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania (in the UGI gas service area) from UGI Energy Services LLC

Under its sought Pennsylvania retail gas supplier license, Castleton Commodities Merchant Trading currently intends to supply gas to the Hunlock power plant

However, Castleton Commodities Merchant Trading stated that, "In the future, CCMT intends to supply gas to other generator(s) and possibly other large commercial customers in the UGI service territory."

On a typical day, CCI transports over 5 Bcf of gas to meet the needs of its clients and customers.

Regarding CCI's purchase of the Hunlock power plant, CCI said, "we are exploring multiple paths for expansion, including energy storage, data center development and additional gas-fired capacity. We are dedicated to facilitating a seamless transition of ownership and maintaining Hunlock as a reliable and cost-effective power source."

"CCI remains committed to operating at the intersection of electric generation, battery storage and data, and is actively exploring these and other expansion opportunities at our power plants in New York, New England and Texas," CCI recently said
