BGE/Pepco: No "Firm Plans" To Build Generation In Maryland, But All Options On The Table
The following story is brought free of charge to readers by VertexOne, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com
Baltimore Gas & Electric, Pepco-Maryland, and Delmarva-Maryland have no "firm plans" to build generation in Maryland, but see "all options on the table" to address resource adequacy, a witness for Exelon, the utilities' ultimate parent, said at a Maryland PSC technical conference today
Exelon's witness spoke of the need for a "holistic" approach
Commissioner Bonnie Suchman pressed Exelon on whether BGE or Pepco-Delmarva are considering new utility-owned generation
Exelon's witness stated, "We do not have firm plans in place to build generation assets," in Maryland
Suchman had the "sense" that the Exelon companies were looking at, "in some detail", about the PSC's authority regarding utility-owned generation
Exelon's witness said that undertaking an exploration of such authority is consistent with keeping all options on the table
Exelon's witness said that while its Maryland EDCs are not actively developing generation projects, the utilities do realize that they are the supplier of last resort
Exelon's witness concluded by stating that Exelon's Maryland EDCs do not have plans in place to build generation, "at the moment."
