CenterPoint TDU Seeks New Rider Charged To REPs For Storm Costs
The following story is brought free of charge to readers by VertexOne, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com
CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric, LLC filed at the Texas PUC an application for the determination of system restoration costs related to certain May 2024 storm events (with the application limited to such May 2024 events, and with the application not addressing subsequent events such as Hurricane Beryl)
In the application, CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric proposes to recover distribution-related restoration costs through securitization and an associated new storm rider to be established in a future financing
order proceeding.
This future proceeding would determine the amount charged to REPs as part of retail delivery service under the new storm rider, and CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric did not propose any specific amount to be charged under any new storm rider as part of the instant system restoration cost proceeding
If the later financing proceeding finds that securitization would not be beneficial, CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric said in testimony that
it would instead propose to implement an appropriate surcharge to recover approved storm costs.
