The following story is brought free of charge to readers by VertexOne, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com

Residential tariffed price to compare electric rates at most of the FirstEnergy Pennsylvania service areas are increasing by about 8%, while the West Penn Power tariffed price to compare rate is increasing nearly 9%, to be effective December 1, 2024

FirstEnergy Pennsylvania has filed with the Pennsylvania PUC new PTCDefault rates to be in effect for the six-month period December 1, 2024 through May 31, 2025

Note that all rates in this story exclude the state tax adjustment surcharge (except where noted specifically as a comparison). The PTCs listed on PA Power Switch, as of publication time, exclude the STAS.

While the FirstEnergy EDCs have long had a STAS of 0%, making the issue moot with respect to PTCs, a marginal STAS is now applicable, as follows:

• Met-Ed: 0.02%

• Penelec: 0.07%

• Penn Power: -0.02% (negative adjustment)

• West Penn Power: -0.05% (negative adjustment)

The current PTCs as posted on the FirstEnergy Pennsylvania website include the STAS

The impact of the STAS is de minimis. For example, the current Penelec residential PTC with STAS is 9.751 cents per kWh, while the underlying non-STAS tariffed PTCDefault rate is 9.744 cents per kWh

Residential Rates

At Met-Ed, the tariffed residential PTCDefault rate will be $0.11011 per kWh effective December 1, 2024, a nearly 6% increase versus the current $0.10404 per kWh

At Penelec, the tariffed residential PTCDefault rate will be $0.10474 per kWh effective December 1, 2024, which is more than a 7% increase versus the current $0.09744 per kWh

At Penn Power, the tariffed residential PTCDefault rate will be $0.11168 per kWh effective December 1, 2024, which is more than a 7% increase versus the current $0.10389 per kWh

At West Penn Power, the tariffed residential PTCDefault rate will be $0.09481 per kWh effective December 1, 2024, a nearly 8% increase versus the current $0.08787 per kWh

Commercial Rates

At Met-Ed, the tariffed commercial PTCDefault rate will be $0.11048 per kWh effective December 1, 2024, a 4% increase versus the current $0.10594 per kWh

At Penelec, the tariffed commercial PTCDefault rate will be $0.10382 per kWh effective December 1, 2024, a marginal increase versus the current $0.10238 per kWh

At Penn Power, the tariffed commercial PTCDefault rate will be $0.12098 per kWh effective December 1, 2024, which is more than a 2% increase versus the current $0.11796 per kWh
