Carnation Energy LLC, a start-up, applied for an Ohio natural gas supplier license to serve all customer classes in all service areas

Carnation Energy stated that it would serve both C&I and residential customers with an initial focus on Enbridge Gas Ohio (f/k/a Dominion East Ohio), with plans to expand to Columbia Gas of Ohio in the future

Ohio is the first state in which Carnation Energy is seeking certification as a retail energy supplier. The company indicated that it would seek licenses in Pennsylvania, Florida, and Maryland as well

Carnation Energy is being led by Sean Clements who has experience across various energy industries, including E&P, midstream, and natural gas marketing, as principal and as a consultant through pre-acquisition financial forecasting; mergers, acquisitions and divestiture (M&A and A&D) transactions; in- and out-of-court restructurings, and other matters

Clements has served on the board of a natural gas marketing company serving LDCs across the Gulf Coast and North East regions.

Clements was retained as the CCO of an energy marketing company post acquisition to lead the group in risk management and oversee the procurement of natural gas and all energy related originated transactions.

Among other experience, Clements has served as an independent board member and advisory board member to companies engaged in energy trading, and served in a fiduciary role as sole member (aka Trustee) of a California exploration and production (E&P) company, responsible for day-to-day management, business plan oversight and capital deployment, managing bank relationships, and ultimately, the sale and dissolution of the company.

Carnation Energy is said to derive its name from the scarlet carnation being the state cultivated flower of Ohio
