Largest Ontario Retail Energy Supplier Launching New U.S. Company
The following story is brought free of charge to readers by VertexOne, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com
ONIT Energy Ltd. d/b/a Ontario Wholesale Energy, which is described as the largest
energy retailer in Ontario, Canada, has created a new U.S. company, American Wholesale Energy Inc.
American Wholesale Energy Inc. has filed at the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio a Competitive Retail Electric Service (CRES) Provider application and a Competitive Retail Natural Gas Service (CRNGS) Provider application
In each application, American Wholesale Energy Inc. checked the box for "broker" (not marketer or retail generation provider) and refers to its business throughout the application as being a broker (as does its website). Furthermore, in a cover letter from American Wholesale Energy for both applications, the company references the "AGG" case code, used for brokers. However, PUCO has docketed the matters using the "-CRS" case code, typically used for load-serving retail suppliers
American Wholesale Energy applied for authority to serve all customer classes in all service areas, though its current website suggests a focus on business customers
Tim Mulcahy, CEO and co-founder of ONIT Energy, serves as CEO of American Wholesale Energy. Mulcahy was one of the co-founders of Ontario Energy Savings Corporation (later Just Energy)
