Retail Energy Not Among Top 10 Complaints In AG's Annual Report

Complaints against retail energy suppliers do not appear as a top-10 leading source of complaints received by the Massachusetts Attorney General, according to an annual report
While the state's DPU may lead regulation of the state's retail energy market, the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office (AGO), "encourages consumers who have concerns with a business, whether it be a
health care provider, a landlord, a repair shop, a store, an energy company, an insurance
company, or a debt collector, to," contact the AG and file a complaint via phone or online
In 2023, Massachusetts consumers filed more than 25,435 consumer complaints with the AGO, a
10% increase from calendar year 2022.
The leading category of complaints was health care services, at 1,348 for 2023.
While retail energy was not a top 10 source of complaints to the AGO in 2023, "rooftop & community solar" were, as the category was ranked as the 9th leading source of complaints, with 534 complaints in 2023
The 10th highest complaint category, at 490 complaints, was home appliances
The top 10 categories of complaints where health care services; bundled travel & vacation; landlord-tenant; auto repair; used car sales; home improvement; health insurance; auto & home insurance; rooftop & community solar; and home appliances
