Caldwell Muni Utility Applies At Texas PUC To Join ERCOT
The following story is brought free of charge to readers by VertexOne, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com
The City of Caldwell, Texas formally filed at the Texas PUC to move its municipal utility and associated load from the MISO into ERCOT
A cursory review of Caldwell's application to integrate into ERCOT did not indicate that the application mentions or addresses the issue of customer choice
The opportunity to join ERCOT arises from the need to replace an aged substation which currently connects the muni system to Entergy. Caldwell said that capital costs would be cheaper to build a new substation and connect it to nearby LCRA TSC lines, which are part of ERCOT
Caldwell listed benefit of its proposed ERCOT integration as lower capital costs for the substation, reliability benefits, and lower power supply costs
Concerning power supply costs expected under ERCOT integration, Caldwell cited, among other drivers of lower costs, "discontinuance of capacity cost payments in MISO."
