MI Texas REP 2, LLC applied for an Option 1 Texas retail electric provider certificate

MI Texas REP 2 is ultimately a part of the Mothership Incubator, which, as exclusively first reported by EnergyChoiceMatters.com (see full background here), offers a service under which it, "will operate an Option1 [sic] REP licensed in ERCOT on your behalf for your customers, offering a true white labeled REP that you control." (note, since our original linked reporting from Aug. 2021, Mothership Energy Group is said to be no longer affiliated with Mothership Incubator)

A separate Mothership Incubator entity, MI Texas REP 1, has already been certificated as a Texas REP and is actively selling retail electricity plans under the Abacus Energy Retail Electricity brand

In its REP application, MI Texas REP 2 applied to use the trade name Abacus Energy Retail Electricity and has filed with the Texas Secretary of State to use such assumed name

Based on public PUC filings, as well as the PUC's public REP directory, the trade name Abacus Energy Retail Electricity remains on the certificate of MI Texas REP 1 as of publication time. Texas Secretary of State records still show the trade name Abacus Energy Retail Electricity as "active" for MI Texas REP 1, as of publication time

In the REP application, MI Texas REP 2 applied for the option of collecting deposits or advance payments from customers

Per its REP application, MI Texas REP 2 is also affiliated with Abacus Energy LLC, a registered Texas electric broker. Abacus Energy LLC is a solar installation company
