Update: Retail Supplier Ceasing Operations Due To Volunteer Energy's Bankruptcy

Retail supplier Energy Cooperative of Ohio (ECO), a competitive retail natural gas supplier certified in
Ohio, is ceasing operations as a retail supplier and abandoning its Ohio supplier license
As first reported by EnergyChoiceMatters.com, Volunteer Energy Services had served as ECO's natural gas supplier. As a result of Volunteer's bankruptcy ECO's customers were moved to default service. However, it previously wasn't clear if ECO would seek to continue its retail supplier operations with another gas supplier
"In announcing its bankruptcy, Volunteer Energy provided notice to ECO that effective
immediately it would no longer be supplying ECO with gas to service its customers," ECO noted
"ECO lacks
sufficient funds necessary to switch to a different supplier, and thus is electing to wind down its
business and cease operations" ECO said
"As most of ECO’s customers are on a month-to-month basis, there will be no assignment
of customer contracts to an alternative marketer. As such, those customers’ service will revert back
to their natural gas company, either Columbus Gas of Ohio or Dominion Energy," ECO said
