Viridian Energy's new natural gas markets will initially include eight utility service areas, Cami Boehme, Vice President of Marketing and Brand Communications at Viridian Energy, told Matters.
As first reported by Matters on September 22 (9/22), Viridian will launch gas service in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania on January 1.
Boehme said that the initial utility service areas will be:
New York
Consolidated Edison
KeySpan New York (National Grid)
KeySpan Long Island (National Grid)
New Jersey
PSE&G
South Jersey Gas
New Jersey Natural Gas (may be shortly after Jan 1.)
Pennsylvania
PECO
Peoples Natural Gas
With the exception of KeySpan Long Island (which generally overlaps LIPA), Viridian is currently serving electric customers in territories overlapping each of these service areas, though in some cases the gas service areas expand beyond the boundaries of Viridian's current electric territories (such as at Peoples which expands beyond Viridian's active Duquesne Light service).
Viridian expects to leverage its loyal electric customer base in these territories in its gas marketing efforts.
Viridian, which only offers electric products with at least 20% renewable content, is still evaluating how to incorporate gas offers into its green culture, and is evaluating carbon offsets and other mechanisms.
Viridian will offer both a variable and fixed price gas offer upon launching marketing.
Boehme could not disclose any definitive plans for the Ohio gas market, where Viridian is already licensed and Cincinnati Bell is on record as desiring to expand its electric marketing partnership with Viridian to gas.
