Reliant Energy Northeast Discloses Customer Count in Ohio Application
September 21, 2011

Reliant Energy Northeast LLC applied for an Ohio electric supplier license to serve all customer classes, including residential customers, in all service areas.
In its application, Reliant Energy Northeast LLC said that it currently has approximately 1,000 residential customers, and anticipates having approximately 4,000 residential customers by the end of 2011.
As first reported by Matters, Reliant Energy Northeast currently offers residential service in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, and the District of Columbia (see related story today on D.C.).
Reliant Energy Northeast further said that it currently serves approximately 5,000 commercial and residential "customers" in the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Illinois, Delaware, and Pennsylvania.
Additionally, Reliant Energy Northeast's application provided a chart listing "Reliant Energy Commercial and Industrial Retail Electricity Sales" as follows, for the second quarter of 2011:
Electric Sales Volumes (GWh): 6,591
Period End Customer Count (meters): 61,000
Though not explicit, and although all other descriptions were specific to the Reliant Energy Northeast business, this second-quarter C&I data apparently includes all of the Reliant businesses, not just the Northeast. The 61,000 C&I meters is identical to the Reliant C&I total reported in NRG Energy's second quarter 10-Q, but the GWh figure in the 10-Q is 6,674 GWh (though the 6,591 GWh total is listed as second quarter C&I volumes in an earnings presentation).
Reliant said that its initial marketing channels in Ohio will primarily be via a web presence and reactive call center; however, Reliant expects to expand to additional channels as traction is gained in the marketplace and opportunities emerge.
