Ampegy to Expand to All Spark Energy Territories By Year End

August  10, 2011
Email This Story

Ampegy will expand to all of Spark Energy's territories by the end of the year, Todd Thoman, president of Ampegy, told Matters.

Ampegy is the network marketing affiliate of Spark Energy

Ampegy is currently serving mass market electric and/or gas customers in 18 markets in California, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Texas. In addition to these markets, service to larger commercial customers, which Ampegy is still testing and rolling out, is also available in Florida (natural gas).

Additional Spark Energy markets not currently served by Ampegy include:

Arizona
Southwest Gas Company: Commercial-Industrial
UniSource Energy Services (gas): Commercial-Industrial

Colorado
Public Service Company of Colorado (gas): Commercial-Industrial

Indiana
Citizens Gas: Commercial-Industrial
NIPSCO (gas): Residential-Commercial-Industrial

Massachusetts
Bay State Gas: Commercial-Industrial
Colonial Gas (National Grid): Commercial-Industrial
Boston Gas (National Grid): Commercial-Industrial
Essex Gas (National Grid): Commercial-Industrial
NStar (gas and electric): Commercial-Industrial

Nevada
Southwest Gas Company: Commercial-Industrial

New Mexico
New Mexico Gas Company: Commercial-Industrial

Ohio
Columbia Gas of Ohio: Commercial-Industrial
Dominion East Ohio: Commercial-Industrial

Thoman confirmed that Ampegy would expand to all of these markets.

Furthermore, Ampegy's lower cost-to-acquire network marketing model may allow Spark to expand its current footprint to markets previously not accessible. In this manner, Thoman called Ampegy the "jet fuel" pushing Spark Energy's growth.

Thoman said that Ampegy's strongest markets to date have been Pacific Gas & Electric (gas only), Commonwealth Edison in Illinois, and PSE&G in New Jersey. At PSE&G, seven out of 10 customers switching to Spark are switching for both gas and electricity, Thoman said.

Pennsylvania and New York have also provided significant business for Ampegy.

Thoman declined to discuss specific customer counts or the number of independent associates, but said that Ampegy has surpassed in six months milestones that similar network marketing competitors took more than a year to reach.
