Reliant Energy Grows Customers Taking eSense Product
Reliant Energy is now serving 350,000 customers in ERCOT on at least one of eight different "eSense" products, which incorporate various capabilities from smart meters, parent NRG Energy said during its earnings call yesterday (see 8/4 for earnings coverage). As of March 31, 2011, Reliant had been serving 220,000 customer under an eSense product. The eSense products range from weekly usage summary emails and other information tools to formal pricing plans such as Time of Use.
Viridian Officially Launches ComEd Service
Viridian officially announced its Commonwealth Edison market entry yesterday, which was first reported in Matters (see 4/29, and 6/16, and 7/27). Viridian serves more than 160,000 customers in 18 markets in six states.
World Energy Reverses Year-Ago Loss
Broker World Energy Solutions, Inc. posted net income of $200,000 for the second quarter, reversing the year-ago loss of $500,000. Revenue for the three months ended June 30, 2011 rose 16% over the same period last year to $4.6 million due to increased auction activity in World Energy's Retail and Wholesale product lines.
LaaRs Deployed by ERCOT Thursday, Load-Shedding Avoided Thus Far
ERCOT reached Energy Emergency Alert Level 2-B yesterday, and deployed Loads Acting as a Resource, but was able to avoid rotating load shedding. Continued tight supply/demand conditions are expected this afternoon as well.
