Gulf Oil Limited Partnership Receives Massachusetts Electric License
Gulf Oil Limited Partnership has received a Massachusetts electric supplier license to serve residential, commercial, and industrial customers. The application was first reported in Matters, and is part of a pilot Gulf Oil Limited Partnership is undertaking in Massachusetts and Connecticut to evaluate the retail supply business (see 5/11).
Start-up Smart Energy Seeks Illinois Supplier License
Start-up Smart Energy, LLC applied for an Illinois alternative retail electric supplier license to serve non-residential customers with annual consumption in excess of 15,000 kWh at Commonwealth Edison and Ameren. Smart Energy is led by CEO Nathan Laurell, who served as a principal and Managing Director of Market-Making at Infinium Capital Management from 2002 until 2010, where he was responsible for revenues exceeding $150 million. While at Infinium Capital Management, Laurell managed a market making operation that traded PJM power markets and spreads on ICE in addition to gas and crude oil. Smart Energy will use Energy Services Group for EDI, scheduling, and other wholesale functions.
Xoom Energy Receives Texas REP Certificate
The PUCT granted Xoom Energy Texas, LLC a retail electric provider certificate. The application was first reported in Matters. As first reported by Matters, Xoom Energy has said that it is ultimately owned be several individuals who own LKN Communications, Inc. d/b/a ACN, Inc. (see 5/19).
