NRG Energy Launches First eVgo Freedom Station in Dallas, Confirms Load Serving Entities

NRG Energy today is dedicating the first public eVgo high-speed, direct current electric vehicle charging station in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area.
NRG Energy also provided details regarding the load serving entity for the public charging stations. NRG said that the load serving entity will be dependent on the host location and the REP serving the host location.
If the REP is one of eVgo's partners -- currently Green Mountain Energy Company, Reliant Energy, TXU Energy -- then that REP will likely serve the charging station load.
If, however, the host location is not served by one of those REPs, NRG said that the load for the charging station would be bid out in some manner among the partner REPs.
There will not be one single, dedicated REP for all of the public charging stations.
Home charging stations will be served by the customer's current REP, which must be a partner with eVgo.
NRG plans to install a total of 70 the high-speed, direct current "Freedom Stations" in Dallas/Fort Worth and 50 in Houston by the end of 2012, with half in place by this summer. NRG also plans to electrify the Interstate 45 corridor connecting them in 2012. Additionally, NRG will also install public "Convenience Stations" which offer slower charging, and are only open coincident to the host customer's hours of operation, as compared to the Freedom Stations' 24/7 availability.
