Spark Energy Launches Network Marketer Ampegy with Excel Communications Veteran

Spark Energy has launched a network marketing affiliate, Ampegy, which will include in a leadership role Steve Smith, co-founder of Excel Communications, a pioneer in the use of multi-level marketing in telecom during the 1990s.

Smith will serve as Chief Marketing Officer of Ampegy. At Excel, Smith grew revenues to a billion and a half dollars in seven years, making it the fourth largest long-distance carrier in the nation.

Ampegy will initially offer service through Spark Energy in seven states. Its initial markets include:

Texas: Electric - ERCOT

New York: Electric - Consolidated Edison, Niagara Mohawk

New York: Gas - Consolidated Edison, Niagara Mohawk, KeySpan New York, KeySpan Long Island

Pennsylvania: Electric - PECO

Illinois: Electric - Commonwealth Edison

Illinois: Gas - Nicor, North Shore Gas, Peoples Gas

Maryland: Electric - Baltimore Gas & Electric

Maryland: Gas - Baltimore Gas & Electric

Connecticut: Electric - Connecticut Light & Power, United Illuminating

California: Gas - Pacific Gas & Electric, San Diego Gas & Electric, Southern California Gas

Spark Energy Executive Vice President Waters Davis will serve as Ampegy's President.
