Aggie Energy to Offer Partial Renewable Products Md. Bill Would Require Proration of Termination Fees Copyright 2010-
Aggie Energy, offered by broker Branded Retail Energy Company and supplied by Champion Energy Services, said yesterday that it will begin offering partial renewable plans in a bid to make rates more affordable to customers. Previously, Aggie Energy has only offered 100% renewable plans with 12 or 24-month fixed pricing. The new plans were not listed on Aggie Energy's website as of early Wednesday morning, and pricing and the level of renewable content were not immediately known. Aggie Energy is a branded affinity channel offered by Branded Retail Energy in conjunction with Texas A&M
A bill (HB 1080) has been introduced into the Maryland General Assembly to regulate the residential early termination fees charged by competitive electric suppliers, though the bill would not set a specific cap on the fee. Instead, HB 1080 would require that the, "the termination fee or penalty shall decrease by an equal amount each month so that the customer owes no termination fee or penalty at the end of the contract." The bill would also establish requirements for suppliers to automatically renew customers, including providing the customer with an, "opportunity to reject the automatic renewal provision before entering into the contract." The bill would also prohibit an electric supplier from refusing service to a customer on the basis that such customer previously cancelled a supply contract.
