Michigan PSC Posts Individual Supplier Load, Customer Data

Email This Story
February 2, 2011

The Michigan PSC has posted year-end customer counts and load served by individual alternative electric suppliers, as part of its report to lawmakers on customer choice.

Individual customer and load data for suppliers at Detroit Edison can be found here on page 18.  Individual customer and load data for suppliers at Consumers Energy can be found here on page 16.

The Consumers Energy territory saw relatively little change in individual and total customer and load counts versus 2009.

However, several suppliers, including Constellation NewEnergy, Direct Energy Business, FirstEnergy Solutions, Glacial Energy, Integrys Energy Services, and Noble Americas Energy Solutions (formerly Sempra) saw appreciable gains at Detroit Edison.

The electric choice load served in the Detroit Edison service territory at year-end 2010 totaled 1,236 MW as compared to 765 MW in 2009.  Similarly, the number of customers served by suppliers totaled 6,387 in 2010 compared to 4,332 in 2009.

The electric choice load served in the Consumers Energy service territory at year-end 2010 totaled 807 MW as compared to 793 MW in 2009.  There were 1,083 customers served by suppliers in 2010, compared to 1,092 in 2009.

There were six active suppliers in the Consumers Energy territory, and 10 active suppliers in the Detroit Edison territory, in 2010.

As only noted by Matters yesterday (2/1), choice participation is currently at (or above) the 2010 level of the 10% cap in each service area; however, a limited amount of room will become available at Detroit Edison under the 2011 cap due to Detroit Edison's higher sales volume in 2010.  These choice allotments are much smaller than the amount of load in the choice queue at Detroit Edison, as noted yesterday.
